Infernal squad Gwar is not visiting Sziget 2009 from the darkest corner of the universe due to technical difficulties. The dead space they make is going to be filled, though, by the popular vanguard of Norwegian black metal Satyricon with their spectacular litany at Rock Stage.

The Satyricon squadron came into being in 1990 by uniting the forces of Exhurtum, Wargod and Lemarchand. The band went through numerous changes in the line-up, the only consistent members being singer Satyr and drummer Frost, who joined the then rookie dark metalist Satyricon in 1992. Oslo Goths' first album Dark Medieval Times was released in 1993 followed by a row of further medieval metal dances of death like The Shadowthrone, Nemesis Divina, and Rebel Extravaganza. Satyricons ultimate accession to the Norwegian metal throne came with their highly successful album Volcano in 2002.

Satyricon, who belong with the diabolical likes of Dimmu Borgir, Marduk and Enslaved, won the heavy metal record of the year award at the Norwegian Grammy with their fifth album, and it also gained several other awards for these black metal satyrs raised and fed on Venom and Bathory. Due to 2006s Now Diabolical, Satyricon managed to spread their occult metal disciplines over the airwaves, too. Getting clear of the dark forces, Satyricon swapped their old image for a Nine Inch Nails-like, industrial sound on their 2008 album Age of Nero with which they are about to tempt the audiences of Rock Stage at Sziget 2009.
